Conveyor Rollers
The correct choice of material is vital for the success of a
roller conveyor. Factors such as load capacity, abrasion,
resistance to corrosion and - of course - cost all play a
part.
The most common roller materials are:
- Plastic
- A very cost-effective roller material for lighter
loads.
- Mild
steel
- Tends to be used for heavier or sharp/abrasive loads
that might produce excessive wear on a platic roller, or
where the products are exposed to high temperatures.
- Stainless
Steel
- Virtually invulnerable to attack by liquids or rust,
this enduring material is particularly popular in the
food-handling industry, or any situation where hygeine is
paramount, or where the rollers may be exposed to corrosive
materials (including damp).
- Zinc-Plated Mild
Steel
- This offers a similar protection from liquids and damp,
whilst being less expensive than a full Stainless Steel
system. It is a popular material for outdoor systems,
though ultimately not as durable as Stainless Steel.
